Our Half-Assed Autumn Preview, Part One

We’ve never watched Shuffle!, but that was the first thing brought back by Google Image Search for ‘anime fall’.

P.S. Did we mention we’re both dancing around like fools to Daddy Yankee’s ‘Corazones’? I think this tells you just how dedicated to this we are.

Battle Spirits: Shounen Toppa Version

Summary: Something, something, based on a card game by Bandai, blah blah.

Thoughts:

Day: Ok, so I’ll admit we couldn’t find a summary almost instantly, so we just sort of adapted the press release. I wonder if I was seven years old if I’d like this… hmm… I think I miss Pokemon…

Depth: Card game based anime? I’m sure it’ll be a hit.

Hakushaku to Yousei

Summary: The story is set in 19th century England and centers on a “fairy doctor” named Lydia. Her life takes a 180-degrees turn when she meets a legendary blue knight count named Edgar and his crew. He hires her as an adviser during his quest to obtain a treasured sword that was supposed to be handed down to him by his family. (ANN)

Thoughts:

Day: I know what yousei means because I watch Nabari no Ou! I know what hakushaku means because I used to read Yami no Matsuei! I think this kind of means I have to watch it, although I doubt I’ll blog it.

Depth: Another no. Weird cat-thing from Natsume Yuujin-chou beats out a cat in a top hat any day.

Tytania

Summary: In a future where mankind is spread amongst the stars in the vastness of space, the TAITANIA family has been able to build a large empire through intimation and economic might. In the year 446, the city-state of EURIA rebels against the tyranny of TAITANIA control. Their isolated act of revolt starts a sequence of events which strains the careful alliances and agreements within the empire, as factions and associations take action to exploit the situation to their best advantage. In the ensuing turmoil, ambitious members of the Taitania Royalty begin to move against each other in an effort settle old grievances and seize control of the family. What started as an act of rebellion in EURIA, quickly expands to a civil war – with the wealth and power of the empire up for grabs for who ever is brave enough to aspire for it. (AniDB)

Thoughts:

Day: When I hear the word ‘Tytania’ I think of long-dead Russian imperial princesses. Then I read the summary and realized it was pronounced like titanium, not like Titania. Too bad.

Depth: This season gets less interesting with every show I hear about it.

Nodame Cantabile: Paris Chapter

Summary: Sequel of Nodame Cantabile. The new story arc will take place in Paris. (AniDB)

Thoughts:

Day: Sweet summary. I occasionally wish I’d watched the first season of this, but I never did, so, well, guess I’m skipping this one too.

Depth: Once upon a time a Japanese woman asked me if I’d ever seen this. I hadn’t. She walked away. I have been in despair ever since.

Jigoku Shoujo Mitsugane

Summary: The third season of Jigoku Shoujo.

Jigoku Shoujo, the Hell Girl. Enma Ai, what has become of her? At the end of last season she became separated from subordinates; so what will happen to Ichimoku Ren, Hone-Onna, and Wanyuudou now? What stories of hatred, lasting grudges, and revenge are being prepared for us this time?

This new season promises to have a newly powered-up Enma Ai and a number of “reunions”, so look forward to it! (AniDB)

Thoughts:

Day: YE YES YES YES YES!!! Although I do wonder what they could possibly do about Ai coming back since we were left off at the end of Futakomori with Ai basically reaching redemption and going to peace finally. Whatever. Bring me moarrrr! I’ll probably blog it since Nabari no Ou will be over by then.

Depth: I thought the first season was boring, so you know where this is going. I’m beginning to wonder if I’m a pain in the ass since I don’t like any of the shows so far, though.

Stitch!

Summary: Blah blah, adaptation of a Disney movie about an alien and the family that ends up adopting it. Includes family themes. And aliens.

Thoughts:

Day: I seem to recall a sensation of pain relating to the American version of this, by which I mean the TV series, not the movie Lilo and Stitch. This is yet another project that has me convinced that Disney is really out of ideas and is trying to scrape money from the barrel as best it can.

Depth: My only question is if this means Lilo is gonna be Loli.

Tales of the Abyss

Summary: Luke fon Fabre, the son of Duke Fabre of the Kimlasca Kingdom, is 17 years old. He is the Light of the Sacred Flame who is destined to bring prosperity to Kimlasca. But since being kidnapped seven years ago by the Malkuth empire, he has been kept confined to the Fabre family mansion. The shock of the kidnapping erased all of Luke’s memories prior to the event. But one fateful day, a mysterious woman breaks into the mansion and sets off a chain of events that will change the world forever…

Based on the video game of the same name. (AniDB)

Thoughts:

Day: Fabre? Makes me think of those pretty, decorative eggs the Romanovs had, Fabergé, I think. Also, that guy with the red hair reminds me of Nadie from El Cazador de la Bruja.

Depth: Video game adaption? How about no?

Gundam 00 Second Season

Summary: 2312 A.D. Four years have passed since the final battle between Celestial Being and the UN Forces. Humanity, after having established the Earth Sphere Federation, forms an independent security force, Arrows, separate from the formal Federation army to further unify nations and the will of mankind. But the reality is the inhumane oppression of anti-government powers, doctrines, and ideologies in the name of unity. Setsuna F. Seiei, after surviving the battle four years ago, has decided to once again fight with his Gundam. (ANN)

Thoughts:

Day: I’m pretty sure I had good intentions that were never realized to watch the first season of this. Think I’ll stick to subsisting on Turn A Gundam and Gundam X.

Depth: Remember when Sunrise was its own studio? Yeah? Me too.

Vampire Knight Guilty

Summary: Vampires. Angst. Vampires. Angst. Part two! Add some love triangle and hit blend.

Thoughts:

Day: Whoa, now that’s a crappy title. I’ll watch this and bitch to anyone who’ll listen about the quality of the adaptation, but I have no intent to blog this whatsoever.

Depth: …I think I’m still hitless.

Hyakko

Summary: Hyakko is a manga whose main heroines were four girls when the story started. But as the story goes, many unique classmates show up. Those girls sometimes twist the heroine around their little finger or vice versa. In many situations, they all have noisy get-togethers with each other, and that is really fun. (AniDB)

Thoughts:

Day: Mm, the summary isn’t really that inspiring. I’ll check out the first episode, I suppose.

Depth: I kinda feel like I should pretend I’m excited about this just because I’ve shot down everything else so far… but I’m not excited. Maybe this season I’ll just watch Strawberry Panic in reverse order and pretend its Touka Gettan.

Oh, hey, hear that? It’s the theme song for Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. We have to go back dancing like idiots now, so keep an eye out for the rest of the Autumn ‘08 preview.

  1. Mikoto Says:

Card game anime… Marketing ploy, ftl! At least the popular you-know-what card game anime wasn’t always focused on the card game, so it was decent.

Tales of Abyss… Awww, the source material is pretty good stuff! Granted, video game adaptations have a 85% chance of failing compared to the content, but I’ll doubt that’d screw Tob up… Hopefully.

    Tytania looks pretty interesting.

Nodame Cantabile is… Nodame Cantabile, so it’s cool. You should really check out the first season if you ever get the chance to.

  2. The Animanachronism Says:

I love the choice of ‘Guilty’ as an add-on to VK’s title. Tytania’s source novels are by the chap who wrote Legend of the Galactic Heroes, so it’s of interest to space opera fans. But the novels never had their story wrapped up, and it’s hard to pull off a good quality anime-only ending.

@ Mikoto – See, a video game could be the best thing since the wheel, and the anime adaptation is going to be so bad everyone wants to go cry in the corner. World Destruction wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either, and that’s the high end of adaptations for video games.

@ The Animanachronism – Yeah, I did see something somewhere about them being from an unfinished novel series, and that is seriously worrisome to me.
