Or, I have too much time on my hands at work.
Or, I have no life… or I feel like engaging in mentally masturbatory exercises. And clearly am quite deranged for believing that anyone would have any interest in this.
A while back, I was bouncing around the idea of making a sort of pictureless visual novel (so, admittedly, just a glorified choose-your-own adventure thing) with another blogger, since we were both annoyed by the lack of visual novels appealing to girls. This really didn’t go anywhere, but the other day at work I was imagining my coworkers as if they were operating in a visual novel – yes, it is very, very possible that I am a complete loser.
Anyway, I had waaay too much fun with it… and did it again today… and… wrote up character profiles for them all >_< And now I’m going to foist them all on you with promises of more stuff to come in the near future (I also even came up with endings for the game, both good and bad, for each of the main characters! pretty pathetic, huh?).
So, if you feel like indulging my complete lack of a life, read on.
Likes: sunbathing, pop music, coffee
Dislikes: meat, going to work
About: Mamiko is the slacker-type, as she often is late to work or fails to show up entirely. Unlike the rest of the cast, she gets along with Ikumu. She is getting ready for her first year of college, but is worried that her parents won’t help her pay for it, as they frequently argue. She probably parties too much, which is part of the problem. But she also is surprisingly good with the more difficult campers.
Endings with: Saburo, Juria, Ikumu, Masuhiro
Likes: gossip magazines, math
Dislikes: computers, rainy days
About: Juria is an extremely hardworking young woman, who always done as she is asked, even if she doesn’t want to. Juria is well-liked by her coworkers because of her reliability. Juria smokes a fair bit, but she tries to keep this quiet as she is embarrassed by it. Juria had wanted to go to college for mathematics, but is instead enrolled in a nursing school by the wishes of her family, a fact which she somewhat resents.
Endings with: Eiji, Masuhiro, Saburo, Mamiko
Likes: pinwheels, harassing coworkers
Dislikes: Mamiko, wearing shoes
About: Natsue is fairly outspoken, although she has yet to voice her dislike for Mamiko for the sake of the staff as a whole. Foul-mouthed and acidic, she nevertheless is dealing with the fact that three people important to her are dying, but hasn’t revealed this to her coworkers. She doesn’t like that Mamiko gets away with slacking off. Natsue likes to make fun of Masuhiro for ‘being old’.
Endings with: Masuhiro, Saburo, Juria, Akira
Likes: sleeping, children
Dislikes: hard liquor, doing laundry
About: Masuhiro is technically the boss of the lifeguard crew, but views the others more as coworkers than as underlings. He was arrested when he was younger a few times for misdemeanors and petty theft, but has turned the corner with a steady job. He gets along very well with the campers, often entertaining them while they are at the pool. Masuhiro was married briefly when he was a little younger, but his wife had a nervous breakdown and the couple was divorced on the demands of her family. Only Yushiro knows about this.
Endings with: Mamiko, Juria, Natsue,Kensuke
Likes: soccer, hamburgers
Dislikes: rabbits, driving
About: Saburo is often teased by his co-workers for being the baby of the group, much to his exasperation. He works the least amount of time of anyone since he is a member of his school’s soccer team, and must practice every day. Saburo comes from a very large family and sometimes complains of younger siblings who eat meals he makes for himself. But he also worries about his younger siblings, since his mother died when they were quite young. Is a bit impatient.
Endings with: Juria, Natsue, Masuhiro, Hagino
Likes: gardening, clean workspaces
Dislikes: Saburo, forgetting things
About: Ikumu is the receptionist, and of the workers she only likes Mamiko. Unknown to her, one of the lifeguards drew a target on the other side of the wall that she sits in front of during work. She misses her hometown, having moved away after a family misunderstanding rendered her homeless. She enjoys gossiping with Mamiko about the office staff at the camp, and thinks that Saburo is a slacker.
Likes: reading, canoeing
Dislikes: loud noises, wilted flowers
About: Eiji is a sweet young man who works part-time at the camp store, part-time as a busboy, and part-time as a flower delivery boy. He went to high school with Juria, who told him of the job opening at the camp. Eiji is working multiple jobs so that he can earn enough money to help his younger brother pay for school. Somewhat ironically, Eiji has a bit of a bad temper, although he is working on it.
Likes: card games, showing off
Dislikes: boring people, ghost stories
About: Young and a bit brash, Akira is a camp counselor who likes to show-off, often making himself look foolish in the process. He is frequently mocked by Natsue, but has a crush on her. He is pretty popular with the campers, as he is the closest in age to them out of all the counselors. He is on a mission to push Natsue into the pool. He is very self-conscious of himself, although he hides it under a seemingly confident exterior.
Likes: pasta, archery
Dislikes: sleeping in, slackers
About: Masuhiro’s boss and one of the office staffers. He means well, but is a bit bumbling at times, although he is a very hard worker. He thinks that Masuhiro is a good head lifeguard; he doesn’t get along with Ikumu due to this and because they also disagree over the effectiveness of the remainder of the lifeguard staff. He has been known to get lunch for the lifeguards on busy days.
Likes: dancing, parades
Dislikes: wintertime, TV
About: Hagino is a counselor for the youngest camp group, the kindergarten section. She goes to school with Saburo, and knows him since they were both in the student council. She is a girl with a very sunny personality, which comes in handy when dealing with her campers. Although she has to get in the pool with her campers when they come to swim, she always finds time to speak with Saburo. She worries about the future, as she is unsure as to what she wants to do once she gets out of high school, but she rarely lets this show.

I think it might just be possible that you can figure out what my place of employment is now.
Some of the characters are completely false, whereas others are loosely based on real people. For the most part, though, I loosely based them on my coworkers and mixed traits together.
Hi, my name is A Day Without Me, and I need a life.
