Here be filler. I’ve read enough of others, may as well do one myself; and, anyway, one does tend to find oneself puzzling over what their answers would be were they to answer these questions. I found out about this… thing via Caraniel’s blog. Unlike her, I will probably be unable to resist the urge to answer everything basically with Shiki stuff. Also unlike her, I won’t put pretty, pretty pictures in this post, since that is effort, uguu.
1. Who is your favorite male anime character?
MASTER FUCKING ASIA
I just scoured my MAL in a desperate effort to not have to name Seishin Muroi as my favorite male character. CLAMP ruined me at a young age; my favorite male characters are of the tortured variety.
Runner ups include Alois Trancy (for being so completely and outrageously fucked up), and Professor Nemuro/Souji Mikage (also for being fucked up, although he manifested it a bit differently).
2. Who is your favorite female anime character?
Oh, dear, Shiki again. Megumi Shimizu. I didn’t like her at first, because she was obsessive about a boy, but I delighted in the fact that she was utterly horrible. However, I also liked her because she was a lot sharper than folks gave her credit for; she cuts her losses vis-a-vis Natsuno and opts to attempt escape when things go south in Sotoba.
Touko Matsudaira is also a favorite of mine; guess I like the tortured ladies as well from time to time. And Sei Satou, but you’d have to be insane to not love her.
3. What is your favorite anime soundtrack?
Can I count the OST’s for all three seasons of Jigoku Shoujo collectively as my favorite? Although, really, it’d be easier to just say that Yasuharu Takanashi is my favorite composer of soundtracks for anime (although I much prefer his work on horror shows to any others).
4. What is your favorite anime opening + animation?
Rinbu Revolution for Revolutionary Girl Utena.
5. What is your favorite anime ending + animation?
Houki Boshi from Bleach remains my favorite, even after all these years. Its a fun, upbeat song, and Studio Pierrot shockingly shelled out for thirteen different sets of accompanying animation.
OVER NIGHT from Le Chevalier D’Eon is a pretty close second; can’t really think of an ED that seemed to fit better with a show than that. Just watching it you got the feel that everyone was totally fucking doomed.
6. What is your favorite anime scene?
Sotoba burning to the ground. No, not really; that scene left me kind of emotionally out of sorts. Favorite scene is really hard. Probably the scene at the very end of Himitsu: Top Secret/Himitsu~The Revelation~ with the core cast walking in the field after the explosion, and its implied that they’re all dead.
Alternately, the super-cheesy, super-awesome moment when Rain jumps into Domon’s arms during the final battle in G Gundam and they defeat the bad guys through the power of love.
7. If you could meet an anime character who would it be?
8. What anime character is most similar to you in terms of personality?
Hmm. I really have no idea, although I can tell you that Seishin Muroi is what I would’ve been in ten years had I not gotten my shit together a few years back. Someone also once said that they pictured me like the Puma sisters from Dominion Tank Police, which was a bit distressing.
9. What is your favorite thing about anime?
Well, while there are certainly mountains of generic and unoriginal anime, at the same time I do tend to feel that there is a quirkier selection ultimately than I can find on my television dial. Granted, I will say that the variety of American television has improved by quite a bit since I initially became an anime fan. I still doubt that I could ever find anything like Mawaru Penguindrum, though, in that particular medium.
10. What is your least favorite thing about anime?
The fact that so much of it is concerned entirely with teenagers.
11. Who’s your favorite anime couple?
Thobari Durandal Kumohira and Hanabusa Seki from Nabari no Ou. I enjoy how equal their relationship is; they each have their own spheres of expertise (ninjas and paleontology, respectively), and they don’t try to get involved in each other’s separate lives. Its also fun to have a May-December romance with the woman as the elder for once.
Domon Kasshu and Rain Mikamura tie with them, easily. Domon is a bit of a jerk with a heart of gold, but it gets increasingly obvious over the course of the show that he genuinely loves Rain. It also helps that his bitchy comments and actions toward her decrease as the show wears on! Rain, for her part, is cool, smart, and extremely competent… and also obviously cares deeply for Domon. I was pulling hard for this couple. Also, they saved the day with the power of love, and managed to do so in a manner that wasn’t tedious.
12. Who is your favorite anime animal?
Momoneko-sama from Tamayura. If you hate that thing, you have no soul.
13. What anime would make a good game?
This is a bit tricky, as many anime already came from games or were adapted into games. Future Diary would probably work well as a visual novel.
14. What game would make a good anime?
Little Busters. Dammit, KyoAni, why haven’t you gotten on this yet?
15. What was the first anime you ever watched?
Sailor Moon and Samurai Pizza Cats. Took a couple of years off, and Pokemon pulled me back in.
16. Do you think you’ll ever stop watching anime?
Nope. I just don’t see there being any reason I would.
17. What is your favorite genre of anime?
horror, even if good horror anime are about as common as hen’s teeth
18. What is your least favorite genre of anime?
Shounen. Snooooore. I also really dislike idol crap.
19. Are you open about watching anime with people you know?
If I thought they’d be interested, I’d be okay with it.
20. Have you ever been to Japan?
No, but I’d like to
21. What anime was the biggest letdown for you?
Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi. Worst pacing I have EVER seen in an anime; finally straightened itself out, only for it to be canceled, so then the staff had to scramble. Bitterly disappointing; it was shaping up to be an interesting tale about redemption.
The lead was a forty-something man, and it took place just prior to the arrival of Commodore Perry. Other main characters were a wayward Mexican girl hiding amongst geisha, the daughter of an actor who dresses as a man, and a Shinto priest hailing from a sect wherein the priests dress as women. The forty-something guy was an ex-con of sorts who came from a wealthy family but who once ended up in the Other world and it screwed him up for the rest of his life, since nothing in our own world ever came close to that experience. It was a great cast. But, wow, that pacing. Terrible.
TIAA was also noteworthy in that it contained the most brutally honest depiction of the realities of the red light district I’ve ever encountered in an anime; yes, even more than Samurai Champloo, actually. TIAA delved into the matter of “what happens when women of the red light district get older?”. Not exactly cheerful stuff, although it was compelling.
22. What anime was better than expected?
Seitokai no Ichizon. I didn’t expect anything at all from this, especially since the light novels were apparently mediocre as all hell. But it was actually a fairly funny show, and handled the switch to a more serious tone much more effectively than most shows usually do.
23. What is the best anime fight scene?
I can’t even recall what the last anime with fight scenes that I watched was.
24. Who is your anime waifu?
I have a massive crush on Saber. Also, Mina Hazuki from Darker than Black. I love me some women in suits.
25. What was your favorite video game as a child?
Pokemon Blue, duh
26. Most embarrassing moment?
Well, getting frozen to the top of a fence is up there. Doesn’t help that no booze was involved.
27. Can you drive?
28. Are you mature?
yes, although one could be forgiven for occasionally thinking otherwise
29. What year were you born?
well, according to my immunization records, I was given a flu shot in 1900, so who the hell knows
30. Do you prefer dogs or cats?
31. Describe yourself physically.
very short, hair’s gotten a bit long… petite, I believe, is the proper descriptor; I am regularly mistaken for being much younger than I am
32. What would you name your first child?
I’m allergic to children. Actually, no – I’m allergic to the potential children springing forth from myself. I would like to adopt some day, but those chillens tend to come pre-named.
33. What is the worst injury you’ve ever had?
I once had a collapsed lung, but that was a long time ago.
34. What is your worst habit?
drinking to excess when I do drink, I guess
35. Do you drink or smoke?
36. Do you have a tattoo?
37. Are you a morning or a night person?
naturally, a night person, but my field of work has made me a morning person from sheer force of habit
38. Have you ever slept past midday?
39. Do you regret anything?
Nope. There are things I shouldn’t’ve done, or should’ve done differently, but I don’t regret them, because I can’t change what I did, its already done. Face forward.
40. Can you count the number of friends that you have on one hand?
41. Do you wear glasses?
yes, but I wear contacts in my everyday living
42. Are you a picky eater?
Absolutely. And because when I’m in a military environment I generally have to just eat whatever the hell they give me, I merrily indulge my pickiness when in civilian land and I don’t care what anyone thinks.
43. Would you die for someone?
I’m in the Army, you do the math
44. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
45. Do you believe in the supernatural?
46. Would you rather be rich or famous?
rich, fame is obnoxious; not too interested, honestly, in either, though
47. Have you ever committed a crime?
…I plead the fifth
48. Time traveler or ghost?
49. Does anybody have a crush on you?
I wouldn’t know, I apparently intimidate people too much for them to ever confess
50. Are you in a relationship?
