Queen’s Blade at a Glance

Ok, so this TOTALLY isn’t what everyone else is, like, saying it was!

Queen’s Blade is a show with a whole lot of boobies. They are very big. In fact, one set gets SO big, they blow up. Because they’re weapons that shoot acid, but someone blocks them so they get clogged!

Queen’s Blade is a cleverly disguised satire of what frightens cloistered male anime fans. Bunny girl’s boob cannons lampoon the male fan’s fear of female sexuality, as bunny girl’s boobies are visually attractive but also intimidating; that their lethal tendency is turned on its head to destroy her only furthers this allusion. Sure, otaku guys might enjoy looking at cartoon ta-tas, but legit ones come as a bit too frightening, and it is this fact that is being raised for laughter here.

Ok, all kidding aside, Queen’s Blade, while compelte and utter garbage, makes an interesting case for analysis – the show tells us much, much more about the creators, writers, etc. than anything. While this is pretty self-evident in a surface-manner, on a closer look its a bit startling how much this show can tell us about the folks involved with its production (mainly the creators, writers, and director). Because its pretty clear that the folks involved in its production love naked, disproportionate, animated ladies, but a perfunctory glance doesn’t exactly touch on all of it (no pun intended).

Of course, what it boils down to is that this crap isn’t just flat-out perverted, but intensely misogynistic (granted, of course, one can make the argument that perversion involving female’s bodies is inherently misogynistic to an extent) – that there are apparently tentacles further down the line only heightens this sense.

I’d watch this to do some armchair psychological analysis of the “minds” behind it, but I don’t think I can manage to tolerate that. I am only left to wonder why the hell they didn’t just make it straight-up hentai (hee~), since I don’t see much censorship fluttering around here anyway, and they could’ve had a half-decent budget that way. Guess the DVD version’ll solve that problem, though.

EDIT: Actually, it occurred to me that the best description of Queen’s Blade was uttered earlier this week when a classmate of mine, upon being asked “Tits or ass?” responded with “Tass.”
